Virgen de San Juan de los Lagos

San Juan de los Lagos, Jalisco

Votaries make offerings to the Virgen de San Juan de los Lagos in a large, designated room that has wall pegboards rising to the high ceiling. The offerings are diverse in format and content—from hair cuttings to retablos—and include a predominance of votary-made collages. Among petitions are requests for the location or freedom of disappeared and kidnapped relatives. The first photograph below shows an offering made by fruit growers from Puebla during an annual October pilgrimage to the basilica.
