Agricultural Offerings

In rural areas miraculous images are petitioned for the health, safety, and procreation of livestock; and for rain, protection from natural disasters, abundant harvest, and other matters concerning agriculture. Petitions and offerings are made with milagritos in the form of crops and farm animals, and with representational offerings like ears of corn and turkey feathers. Some traditional offerings to the Cristo Negro de Otatitlán, Virgen de Juquila, and other images are similar to offerings made to precolumbian deities. These include corn, seeds, wheat, eggs, and chile.
